Submission Guidelines

To submit your business details to the directory, start by clicking on the directory which best fits your business (e.g. a hairdresser would click on Wedding Hair-styles).

We have chosen our directory names to maximise the chances of people finding them via search engines. More people search on ‘wedding hair-styles’ than ‘wedding hairdessers’ and more people spell out ‘jewelry’ than ‘jewellry’ or “jewellery”!

Click on the Add Url link at the top of the directory page end enter your email address, a title for your site, a description of the products or services on offer (maximum 255 characters) and a list of keywords (separated by a comma). Please use the official title of your site in the title field. We also recommend your description is consistent with the meta-description tag used on your page.

Next, enter your URL. Our hairdresser might enter the URL of a sub-page in her site that deals with wedding hair-styles alone (a so-called “deep link”). Most other suppliers would simply enter their homepage.

Finally, enter and confirm a password. This is needed so that you can log-in to the directory in future if you need to update your entry (e.g. if your site address or services offered changes).

You can suggest an additional category to help us develop the directory structure and opt to subscribe to our mailing list (where we keep you updated on how the ranking of the directory is progressing and alert you to advertising opportunities).

Once you have completed the form and submitted it, one of our editors will review your submission. We then notify you by email (using the address you supplied) of our decision to list or not to list the site.

Please note that any site containing inappropriate content (e.g. sexual, drugs-related, gambling) or completely off-topic (e.g. mobile phones) will not be accepted onto the directory.

Paid Listings

Since September 2007, businesses are required to pay for a listing. There is an annual subscription of £7.99, payable using PayPal.

Site Rating System

All links are assessed for their quality and given a rating. This rating is used to sort results on the site in each category. Sites rated 10 (the maximum) would appear at the top of the category and sites rated 1 would appear at the bottom.

All paid listings are awarded a base rating of 3. Additional points can be earned for reciprocal links, referrals and social bookmarking:

+1 for a reciprocal link from a links/resources page where many other suppliers also feature

+2 for a reciprocal link from a page with three or less external links (e.g. an "about us" page) that is only one click away from your homepage

+3 for a reciprocal link from your homepage (where there are three or less external links on that page)

An example of our preferred format for (category level) reciprocal links is given below. When you do your submission, the actual link text for your category will be displayed in the form:

+2 for a link from your homepage to our Sponsor, Wedding Invitations 4u or +1 for a sponsor link from elsewhere on your site:

+1 for every five sites you refer to the Directory who then successfully get listed. Remind those you refer to enter your email address in the referrer field when they add their URL

+1 point for the social bookmarking of our site at Yahoo and Furl.

By ensuring consistency in this way, we can drive the search engine position of the UK Wedding Directory ever higher and, in turn, improve the ranking of your site and the number of visitors you receive! If you have any unanswered questions, please contact us.
